Pilotphase
The training partnership with Mexico took the form of a supplementary one-year course. It was available to both fully trained nurses and those who have not yet obtained formal qualifications and was the basis for working in Germany.
Students obtained the generalist knowledge they needed and the special professional knowledge about the German health system. They also attended German language courses and received practical training to help them put the additional theoretical knowledge they have acquired into practice. During the course, participants received a cost-of-living allowance that was paid by their future German employer.

- Students of nursing obtain a Licenciatura en EnfermerÃa from a university.
- The degree course leading to this qualification generally involves eight semesters at a university.
- The four-year nursing degree is followed by a mandatory year of social service, the Servicio Social.
Under the Global Skills Partnerships programme, nursing graduates attended additional language courses and were prepared professionally over the course of one year. In the long term, these are to be integrated in the regular degree course.

A warm welcome!
Arrival of the first Mexican nursing staff
The first group of Mexican nursing staff arrived in Germany at the end of September 2022 as part of the training partnership with the partner university in Mexico. Since then, 36 Mexican colleagues have joined the nursing teams in clinics in North Rhine-Westphalia.
In the weeks that followed, a further 10 nurses arrived and were deployed in various clinics.
The programme was successfully completed with the arrival of the Mexican nurses and handed over to the respective partners in Germany and Mexico for independent continuation.
